Activity Description
Part 1 - Label the Webpage and Browser Areas
Students label a LinkedIn profile with the corresponding vocabulary. They can either draw lines or write the words next to the correct section in the picture.
Part 2 - Web Verbs
Users match verbs used for computer/web use to their definitions
Part 3 - Information Hunt*
*Requires that students are on a computer connected to the web
The teacher reads out instructions. The students listen and follow in order to find particular information. For example:
#1
- Go to the URL www.canadianimmigrant.ca
- In the search box on the right-sidebar, enter "soft skills"
- On the results page, there will be several articles. Click on the one entitled “Improve your cultural fit, aka Soft skills…"
- Write down the date this article was published for answer #1.
#2
- Go to the URL www.cbc.ca
- Click on the 'More' dropdown menu, and then click on Weather.
- Write down the weather forecast for tomorrow as answer #2.
#3 & 4
- Go to www.jobbank.gc.ca
- In the Explore Careers widget on right hand side, click on the link for Occupation.
- Enter 'housekeeper'. Then city should be set to Toronto.
- Go to the Wages tab. Write down the median wage for the Toronto Region. This is answer #3.
- Go to the Outlook tab. For answer #4. Write down if the outlook is supposed to be good or bad for this career.
Part 4 - Students Design their Own Web Hunt
Have the students design their own information hunt, similar to the above. Let them practice with a partner. When everyone has finished, pick a few students to give their web information hunt to the entire class.
