Lesson Overview:

  • After warm-up questions, students read a passage containing three abbreviated stories from the AITA  subreddit. Encourage students to read and discuss each story, assessing if the OP (original poster) is to blame or not. The passage is 372 words in length.
  • The passage is followed by comprehension questions and a list of 11 vocabulary items that students should match to their corresponding definitions.
  • Next, students use some of the new vocabulary in to complete discussion questions.
  • The lesson has one roleplay between a brother who wants to have a child-free wedding and his sister.
  • To review vocabulary, the lesson also has a storytelling activity in which students should try to build a story using the images provided and the lesson's vocabulary. (Note: The images should elicit a story about someone stealing someone's lunch).
  • Next, in an AITA Rapid Fire activity, students discuss five more shortened AITA situations.
  • Finally, students review vocabulary, collocations, and then ask each other some final discussion questions.
