EnglishCurrent provided free lesson plans from its creation in 2011 until spring 2022. The site and its content are the product of one person, Matthew Barton (me). I continue to publish new lessons monthly, but due to time constraints (children, other writing projects), I can no longer dedicate time to creating these lessons for free. Therefore, I ask that institutions and teachers pay a small fee for access to EnglishCurrent's lesson bank.
Membership is $20 USD for a year, which is much lower than competitor prices. This gives you access to all EnglishCurrent lesson plans (350 currently). These lessons can be downloaded in Microsoft Word format so you can modify them before printing.

Why is EnglishCurrent so much more affordable?
- ESL teaching doesn't pay much, so I keep the cost low. I also want membership to be affordable for teachers in developing countries.
- I only write topic-based B1-C2-level lessons for conversational English class. Grammar worksheets, exam prep, etc. are not a focus (such materials are already free on the site).
- There's only one employee and overhead costs are low.
EnglishCurrent's lesson bank has 350 lessons and I post around seven a month on three or four different themes. Most lessons are for B2/C1/C2 levels.
Testimonials from anonymous teacher feedback:
- "Great content! Sites like ESL brains do a good job but the lessons could be a bit random and not really intellectual enough."
- "I love your site. The conversation starters and role plays are outstanding."
- "I think you are doing a terrific job, and I want to thank you for making it available to teachers like me for such a small fee."
- "Thank you for making the topics relevant, insightful and controversial- it does help my students think and express their ideas."
