Worksheet Description:
This is an ESL worksheet I created for studying basic English adjectives. It has two exercises: matching and a crossword puzzle. Before using this worksheet, I taught my advanced grade 4 class simple English adjectives using flash cards. Once they had learned them (this could take 2 classes or so), I introduced this sheet.
Since some students cannot spell, I included an adjective-matching activity. First, have the students draw a line between an adjective (e.g. 'new') and its opposite ('old'). Most students could do this since their basic knowledge of phonics allows them to understand the sound of the first letter of each word. Help the others who struggle.
Once students have done the matching, they can go on to the crossword puzzle, which must be filled in with the opposites of the adjectives in the left-hand column.
Students generally enjoy crossword puzzles. This one should be no exception.
