Learn 100 Essential Idioms used in North American English
Available for free on Google Play
This application is designed to help ESL students learn 100 idioms that are common in the United States and Canada.
In this application, you can do the following:
- view idioms
- match idioms to definitions
- match idioms with examples
- write the correct idiom that fits in an example sentence
The 100 idioms are grouped into 10 levels based on difficulty (intermediate, upper-intermediate, advanced). The purpose of this application is to help students learn 100 useful idioms. This is NOT an idiom dictionary.
This application was based on a list of idioms I created that is available on the web here: Useful North American Idioms List
This app is only available on Android mobile devices (for now). Depending on the feedback I receive, I may create a version for the iPhone or another version with another 100 idioms.
Let me know your feedback!
If you like the app, then please rate it on the Google Play store here.
If you have some feedback or suggestions, please leave a comment below!
Thank you.

I had my students get the app for practice. Thanks! Is it not available for Apple iPhone?
Unfortunately not. To make an app for iPhone (iOS) you actually have to rewrite it completely in another programming language. I only had the time and skills to do the Android version (I am an Android user). Looking forward to seeing more people in the hall of fame!
Thank you.
I have completed all the levels. But still I can’t enter the Hall of Fame. Even after entering my name and location . It shows an error occurred. What can i do know for entering hall of fame.
Hello. The free API that connected to the Hall of Fame database was discontinued by Google about two years ago, thereby killing the Hall of Fame. Feel free to post your name, location, and date of completion below as a record of finishing the app. Congrats!
